So I was building a network rack since I am going to wire my home with Gigabit Ether (tired of wireless). Half way through the construction I had to stop myself. I was building the rack using the old way of thinking….hardware store, nuts & bolts. It was time to employ my new method of thinking about solutions to problems since I’m now a “maker”, I suppose. The rackThe wood was already cut and the frame already bolted together when I decided to employ my new capabilities. The brackets were designed around that fact. I don’t have precision wood working tools so my cuts are a little sloppy and so is my hole drilling. Ironically, the 3D printed brackets gave the rack a cleaner look than I could ever make it. A few 1/2″ wood screws later and the frame is sturdy.I still need to fasten some boards to mount my cable modem and wifi router. I think I’ll design brackets for that. I’m definitely going to design a wall mount bracket that will be adjustable so that you can wall mount this to studs. And when I get the cable ran I’ll print some items to mount to the frame to make sure the cables are neat. The design needs some tweaking (hindsight), but once I’m done I’ll make the collection available on thingiverse. http://ift.tt/2a7yekb
