I read your advice: don’t buy a cheap printer kit from China – but then did it anyway.

Sorry for the long post.TLDR: I bought a “Flying Bear” 3D printer and just wanted to say ‘Hi!’ to this subreddit.I nearly went with the Monoprice printer since everyone here suggests it at the $300 (usd) range. But after a couple days of research I decided that I could get more from my money if I took a bit of a risk. I did heed your advice about avoiding plastic frames though – thanks!Anyway, I ended up gambling on a “Flying Bear (P902)” 3D printer kit and I have no regrets. Here’s a picture of the 3rd thing I printed – a tiki statue as close as I could find to the necklace in Scrubs. http://ift.tt/2i44Zgb I’m pretty happy with it especially considering this wasn’t made specifically to be 3D printed, I haven’t tweaked the default settings, and also because I’ve never used a printer without support material before. The printer looks like this: http://ift.tt/2i2exxf And some of the specs: Build Volume: 220 x 220 x 280 mmFull metal frame: standard aluminum t-slotHeated aluminum build plateSeparate Part and Extruder cooling fansArduino / RAMPS cooling fanMin layer thickness: 0.05mmMax print speed: 140mm/sIf anyone cares – it took me about 6 hours to assemble it mechanically, and maybe 2 hours to do the wiring. Obviously that wouldn’t of been needed with the monoprice one. Satisfaction from building something with my hands aside – the main reasons I chose this one are solid construction and ease of doing modifications / upgrades.I made a time-lapse video of the assembly if anyone’s interested.https://youtu.be/1rCZel8rfVcProblems: The instructions are not great. The power cord was only rated to 5 amps – I replaced it during assembly. The frame was not grounded – fixed during assembly. The z-axis limit switch end stop is poorly designed – should be an easy fix when I get time. Some of the screws are not well chosen.Anyway, thanks for reading. I’m hoping by posting this I can find some other people with the same (or similar) printer to share mods and settings or something.Edit: corrected build volume http://ift.tt/2jqElmC
