Maker Select v2.1/Wanhao i3 V2.1 Complete Upgrade with links and guides: 2nd draft Gathered more info to share

Hey Everyone, I’ve had some time with my maker select v2.1 and I have some more information to share. My goal again is to amass a master list of upgrade items that you should consider and a list of mechanical and electrical modifications specifically for the Version 2.1 Anyone with a Wanhao i3 V2.1 should be able to follow along. If you have a Wanhao and can provide anything that Monoprice doesn’t do or have, please share I don’t have access to the Wanhao Version for specifics!I’d like to add that I welcome all comments and criticisms. I cannot and will not be able to cover the massive amount of options available. But, with your help we can make this an amazing resource for all. I fully intend to credit anyone that can do a little write up to help expound on the myriad of choices that exist for us as users.Purchased: FYI many items on this list can be had for much less on Ebay or Aliexpress, these can be used for reference. As mentioned below There are also many alternatives for bed leveling and bed adhesion those will be expanded on at a later time.Vktech Dial Indicator Gauge 0-10mm Meter Precise 0.01Resolution: http://ift.tt/2iAXHoP 3D Printer MK2 MK3 Heated Bed Tempered Borosilicate Glass Plate 2132003mm: http://ift.tt/2hlqI2W x 205mm x 0.5mm Silicone Thermal Pad for CPU GPU Heatsink: http://ift.tt/2iASUUi Fan DC 12V 0.15A 2 Pin Connector Cooling 50mmx15mm: http://ift.tt/2hljxYp Drive Gear MK9/10 (Di3 Mod) Item# C11-CFFG – 01 http://ift.tt/2hm05Li drive gear mod – Although the original design has changed from V2 to V2.1 and it has improved, many on thingiverse have stated for they best performance go ahead and Buy the real replacement.RepRap Champion Anodized Aluminum Y Carriage Plate Upgrade V2 for Prusa i3 RepRap 3D Printer http://ift.tt/2iZpufu plate can be found on many websites but seems to be sold out. States they can’t handle the 250C they are rated for. Btw they are developing a plug and play daughter board that will let you use any thermal coupler for the Melzi board. Almost completed development no price or availability yethttp://www.unclechucks3dprinterstuff.com/di3%20printer%20parts%20oem.htmNEW INFORMATIONMy Melzi board is a 1.0/v2.0 hybrid board. From what I gather it has the same schematic as the V1 but has the components that reflect the V2.0 melzi boards. I’m working with a new friend over hangouts and he apparently has a full V2.0 board on his V2.1 Maker Select. I need your help to make sure we cover what different board configurations are being used in the V2.1Stepper Tuning and why you should consider it.Every one of my steppers were set too high. The Z’s were almost 50% over the recommended current. the X,Y,E’s were about 25-35% too high.Read this, watch the video triple check and you will be fine. :)http://ift.tt/2jjbXmC stepper motors are an assortment you must check the model numbers and verify to attempt Stepper Tuning. You must verify the resistor used on your board. Mine is a R100 which is .1ohm your Vref calculation will be different if it’s not .1ohm.VREF = Current(A) x 8 * Sense_Resistor (.1ohm RS) * 0.90 This is the calculation for a 90% workload which is what we are shooting for.My corrected motors:Z motors = 2 @ .39A YOU MUST DOUBLE THIS BECAUSE Z’s ARE WIRED TOGETHER so .39×2= .78A VREF .5616X motor = .95A VREF 0.684Y motor= .95A VREF 0.684Extruder = 1.02A VREF .7344Here is the list of upgrades I have doneor plan to do with the associated guides and diagrams:1. Rev3-21-V2-1_Beta3 Print this file if you have 30.8mm spacing on your current fan. All new v2.1’s should have 30.8mm spacing not the old 40mm spacing. This version left a 2.5mm gap above the nozzle, which the creator states is about perfect height.Extruder gear replacement: Still RecommendedExtruder gear replacement procedure: http://ift.tt/2hlmoAr step calibration (not performed yet will confirm soon) http://ift.tt/2fP6Zgd http://ift.tt/2iQYDp2
