PSA: Get some cut gloves (or “how I nearly cut my finger off”)

A few months ago there was a comment on this sub where someone mentioned in passing that they wear cut gloves whenever they have to trim/clean up prints. I hadn’t considered doing so before I read that, but I realized it might be a good idea.Side note: cut gloves are thin gloves with steel fibers woven into them, so they’re difficult to cut through. The idea is that if your knife slips, it won’t be able to cut through the gloves so it won’t slice your hand open.I discovered that you can get cut gloves for like $3.50 on aliexpress, so I ordered a pair. A few weeks ago I started trimming a print with a razor. I realized I had the gloves, and even though I didn’t feel like I was being unsafe I stopped to put them on since I was trying to get into the habit of using them. Not 10 seconds later, the part flexed in a way I wasn’t expecting and my hand slipped, quickly driving the razor directly into my middle finger. I looked down, expecting to see blood soaking into the glove, but there wasn’t any. I took off the glove and could see a line/indentation in my finger where the blade struck it, but it wasn’t able to cut through the glove so my finger was fine.I have no doubt that without those gloves, it would have easily cut down to the bone. $3.50 is such a small price to pay to drastically reduce the chances that you’ll earn the nickname “stubby.”TL;DR: I would have cut my finger half off if I hadn’t spent $3.50 on some cut gloves. You should get some too. https://ift.tt/2Dxn0CW
