Several times in this channel there have been discussions about the merits of OctoPrint vs. AstroPrint. I hope that with the release of our OctoPrint Plugin it becomes clear that both products are not competing but complementary. While we do have a standalone wireless controller (The AstroBox), it hardly competes with its equivalent (OctoPi) because it’s targeting a different audience. Thanks to the awesome plugin-in API that Gina and the OS contributors designed, OctoPrint is more extensible and flexible. In an effort to create simplicity, The AstroBox which started as a fork of OctoPrint back in 2014 has grown to be less flexible. This is though where the area of overlap stops. The majority of our software platform is not in the AstroBox but in the cloud, mobile and desktop apps. It is for this reason that we wanted people that love OctoPrint to also get a chance to try our platform without having to re-flash their Raspberry Pis.Today, our plugin went live on the OctoPrint Plugin Repo. I hope you see value in it and discover how both ecosystems complement each other.I’d like to thank Gina for her help and advise in getting the last few knots tied up to get the plugin out.For more information on the plugin, please visit its repo: http://ift.tt/2BejcCu Arroyo CTO, AstroPrint http://ift.tt/2jYvNSI
