Careful if you clean your prints in Sodium Hydroxide!

Hey folks,My lab does a lot of 3D prints and we clean with a Sodium Hydroxide solution in an ultrasound cleaner for 4-8 hours depending on the part size.As I saw in this past post, people are also encountering the slippery film which has been rightly identified as remnant NaOH. /u/strangesam1977 suggested the running water for 30 minutes bath which is a great idea.However I ran my bath for 30 minutes for a medium size part (human hand model) and the water near the part is still pH 9 and the surface of the part itself is pH 11 when I use my pH tester strips.Please be very careful and use extra rinsing if you have a large part! There are lots of different small porous areas in the part where residual NaOH can reside. After you take it out of the bath, feel the surface and if it is still slippery, you should probably continue soaking it in a running water bath. Total newb with no 3d modeling experience. Where should I start?

My school just got a 3D printer and a professor of mine wants to use it to make and model some pieces for an experiment we’re working on, but I have absolutely no idea how to design anything. FuseBox frame, hardware, and parts for sale

Hey guys. A few months ago I built a FuseBox CoreXY on the 1515 extrusion and I’ve upgraded to a new printer. I kept the hot end, the PSU, RAMPS, the linear bearings (idler bearings are included), and the motors for my new printer, and everything else in the BOM is just sitting in my house. Included are the super high quality Misumi extrusions and smooth rods. I don’t really need to make all my money back for this, figured the printer could find a good home and is an excellent opportunity for someone to get started without breaking bank. This printer works really well for the price and is mostly hassle free and relatively easy to tune. I’ve figured that $150 in extra purchases (if you get cheaper bearings) will get you ready to print. Not to mention not having to deal with different companies and separate shipping prices from self sourcing. I’m located in the US in western Pennsylvania.All of the printed parts are included as well, you can swap them out for yours or use mine while you print yours out. Some of them are of a different color because I ran out of the fluorescent green so they’re printed in glow in the dark plastic. [META] So I switched to a Raspi 3 for Octoprint and holy crap, it’s so much better.

I have 2 printers, and I run 2 instances of Octoprint. Both until an hour ago were on Raspi 2’s with the crappy Wifi Dongle. I had one on the opposite side of the house, just because of the shit head neighbor downstairs who complained he could hear the printer overnight, and threw a hissy fit like a little girl, but thats another thing..Anyways, So ya printer 1, opposide side of the house and I could upload files to it, start prints, etc all normal but man streaming video to monitor prints was a nightmare, it would barely work. I bought a wifi extender thinking it was the wifi, but that didn’t fix anything. It must be that dreaded usb wifi dongle, while it works good if you’re in the same room as the printer like printer 2, it doesn’t work well for opposite side of the house streaming.So i’ve had the Raspi 3 since they became available at Microcenter just sitting around, and I tweeted out to Octoprint asking if I could just pull the SD card from the raspi2 and toss it in the raspi3 and if it would just work and to my knowledge they said yep and sure as shit it works flawlessly.Everything is instant as if it was hard wired to the router, video is not delayed at all, I click home and boom the feed is live as it should be, but was never that good w/ the raspi 2.If you have one, or if you’re going to get octoprint for your printer get a raspi 3.TLDR: Raspi 3 > Raspi 2 for Octoprint.
