What can i do about filament coming off the spool and strangling itself on the spoolholder?

I got a robo3d so the spoolholder hangs off the side next to the buildarea and goes up through a hole in the top. For some reason the filament has a habit every so often of coming off the spool and falling to the side where it will begin to bind on the spoolholder and eventually strangle the printer. Is there some way to prevent this? http://ift.tt/1XwXY9P

Dumb Question

I am patiently and excitedly waiting for my first 3d printer kit to come in the mail (Acrylic Prusa i3) and I have been doing a bit of research on 3d printing so that I’ll hopefully know what I’m doing by the time I get it all up and running. My question is in regards to bed adhesion with PLA filament; I’ve read that hairspray, and “blue painter’s tape” are the most common solutions for ensuring good adhesion for PLA plastics.Does the painter’s tape literally have to be blue? I’ve got a whole bunch of the green painter’s tape sitting in my garage, and normally I wouldn’t ask such a dumb sounding question but it always specifies the blue kind. If so, what’s the difference? http://ift.tt/1XwX90L

WTF? Any idea why my print would look like this? Should be a regular print. She’ll thickness of 1. Forgot to save the setting but I’ve never seen a print come out like this.
