PSA- 3d printing is not always the cheapest option

I own a 3d printer and have an ad on my local gumtree (Australian craigslist) and recently had someone ask me how much it would be for a full sized thor hammer.I ran the files through sli3r and saw that it would weigh a total of around 2.5kg and filament costs around $25 per kg through the brand I use. So about $62.5 in material alone. So I told him that i could 3d print the hammer, sand it down slightly so it’s ready for paint and put it togeather for him got about $110. I’d make some money, he’d get what he wants, win win.His first message back was “I could buy a finished one for 100, I thought 3d printing was cheap”So I told him that 3d printing isn’t just a cheap easy process and if he wanted the item for 100 he could just go bit the other one, something he then got mad at and then blocked me for.Tldr- just cos you can make anything, don’t mean you can make it cheap. https://ift.tt/2Q42dKe
