Saw these models of The Incredibles at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World yesterday. They are totally 3d printed. The layer lines aren’t completely gone.

Wood Burning With My 3D Printer

Hello Reddit!Stopped early for a pictureI modified a pen holder on thingiverse for the Prusa i3 MK2 (https://ift.tt/2vLxuIz) to fit my soldering iron. I put down wax paper to protect my MK2.5’s bed and clamped some cheap maple ply wood down to test wood burning. I changed and rewrote some gcode profiles in slic3r to allow my printer to wood burn (or at least hold a wood burner) I slowed the speed down to 7mm/s and set a Z offset as well as many other things. I’ve been working on this project for a little bit now and went through many changes, one of my first tests was using a hardened steel nozzle instead of my brass one to try and burn the wood. However, it didn’t heat up enough. I also researched many different laser diodes to try but they ended up being a little too expensive. I’d be happy to share more details, STL’s, or silc3r profiles if anyone is interested for whatever reason. I started all this because I wanted to try wood burning a design for my Dad’s birthday but I don’t have very steady hands or experience with pyrograpgy (wood burning). I was hoping I could use the 2 axis on my 3D printer for steady and precise drawing and it totally worked! I also want to give another quick thanks to u/Butweye for posting a project he did that involved strapping a pen to his 3d printer, that idea led me to my current solution and so far it works wonderfully! Also, super special thanks to u/BillieRubenCamGirl for originally suggesting the idea of using a soldering iron instead of the pen on the X-carridge.Experimenting with a gift for my Dad’s birthday https://ift.tt/2MieRme
