My Mega Prusa i3’s new home, in the garden shed of OUR new home. Before we moved, it was at my bedroom desk, where it was very out of place, and probably not that healthy either. From now on, tools will be tools! :)

Any of you talented 3D printers want to help a disabled chicken?

Hello, I live in NC and cannot find a local 3D printing shop or maker space so I’m turning to the sometimes awesomely helpful reddit community. Here’s the situation. A chicken breeder that I know gave me this gimpy little day old chick about a month ago. The problem is that one of her legs is double jointed at the knee, so when she puts the wrong kind of weight on it it locks in the forward position and she looses her balance and falls over. Trying to compensate for it has caused her other foot to curl under and her hips to shift. She’s a tough little baby and has learned to deal with it, but I want to make her life easier and once she’s up to full weight I think things will get harder for her unless she has a brace for that knee. This device I’ve imagined would allow her leg to bend fully on the correct direction, but stop the leg from hyper extending. I’m including an idea for a device that I think would help her.https://ift.tt/2IzlNcU it’s completely rigid that’s not the end of the world, but if there’s a 3D printer material that is kind of flexible or “rubbery” I think she would have a shot a reasonably normal active life. I would be willing to pay for all the materials and you could keep anything left over after the project. Her leg fully grown is only going to be about the size of a pencil and only about 5 inches long. I’ll also pay for all the shipping. Additionally, I’m a bladesmith and would make whoever helps me one hell of a hand forged knife as a thank you. Here’s a picture of the little hen. She’s the one in the front with the yellow and black head. She’s about a month old, but is only half the size of the rest of her hatch mates, so we’ve been putting the day old babies in with her. They treat her like a mam hen and snuggle up with her so she’s not lonely, but they are small enough that they don’t step on her or bully her. She’s a sweet little hen and is really fighting to get by.https://ift.tt/2LhxPcz you’ve got any interest in helping me out and making yourself feel good at the same time please message me. If you know someone who might want to help share this post with them. Thanks reddit!Update:Thanks to everyone who has responded offering to help. I’m going to post her leg measurements here. She’s at an age where she’s growing quick, but hopefully if this design works it will be able to be scaled up as she grows to full size. The bottom part of her leg is 5mm thick, the knee joint is 8mm thick and the upper leg is 6.5mm thick. The total length of the leg from the bottom of the foot to the top of the hip is about 55mm, hip to knee is 31mm and knee to foot is 24 mm. https://ift.tt/2kcuAqS
