I saw a leak on reddit about the Mk3 and watched for announcments like a hawk. I ordered the MK3 minutes after the shop came up on their website and received it Monday 12/4. When I picked up the package after receiving it, I could hear metal clanking inside which worried me a little bit. The sound was from the rods hitting each other. Overall it was very nicely packed and organized. It came with this cool tshirt, I’m not exactly sure what it means but it’s really soft and feels like its high quality!First off the online manual is great. It has high quality pictures and is very thorough. I would suggest reading the step first and then go back and doing it. Often I would look at the pictures and not read and make a mistake. The only printer I have ever used is a Maker Select 3D with most of the mods done. With that being my only frame of reference I was impressed with print quality of the parts coming from Prusa to assemble to MK3. Overall the build took around 8 hours and I struggled with a few steps. Namely getting one screw in here or there, or not reading the directions correctly and having to go back. I would like to point out that the new spool holder is hard to put on and I ended up snapping and breaking it. Again, I did not read the directions for how they said to put it on, but I believe I did it the same way the outlined in the instructions. Good thing I can print another. When I first fired it up and ran the self-test it would not let me continue to due there being a Y-axis length discrepancy. I was impressed on how detailed the self-test is. The filament loading and unloading is also a lot cooler than I originally thought it to be. With my Maker Select, I’d have a lot of issues on changing filaments and would have to take the fan off to guide the filament in. One last thing is, is that this printer is quiet! The Maker Select used to squeal to where you could hear with the room’s door closed. With the Noctua fan on the Mk3, you can put your ear next to it and not hear it. The steppers and bearings still make a little noise when moving, but it is much more enjoyable to be around.I haven’t had time to calibrate the Z-axis and get a smooth first layer but I will try that tonight. For now I’ll leave you with some pics.BoxShirtPic 1Pic 2Pic 3 http://ift.tt/2AWerjm
