Prusa i3 mk3 in da house! (a brief review)

Got a Prusa i3 mk3 kit on Wednesday. I’ve assembled (or helped assemble) three i3 mk2s, and this was MUCH easier and less error prone. In total it took 4 hours and 45 minutes. My previous MK2S builds took 6-8 hours.I found calibration much easier than on the MK2S. The “Wizard” worked really well, and I was doing first print in under an hour.I had two issues:”Selftest: X Axis Length”, which was due to a zip-tie bumping against the frame.X-Axis slippage, which was because I didn’t tighten the drive gear to the motor. Oops. Both problems were solved within minutes of posting to the Prusa forums. The speed and quietness is incredible. I have it printing Adalinda right now at 100mm/s with 200mm/s infill and 250mm/s movements, and the print head is zipping around like a hummingbird. I’m 10 feet from it, and I literally can’t tell by sound that it’s printing. It’s going to be hard to want to print on my MK2S.The removable print sheet is really really nice. I used to keep a can of “liquid cold” next to my printer to freeze the edges of a print and get it to pop off. This is WAY easier. :)The filament feed path is also much improved. I always had problems loading and unloading filament from my old printers (had to unscrew the tensioner with every feed). This guides it right in.Print quality with the provided slic3r settings is in line with the MK2S. I kicked everything up to the fastest it can go, and the surface is only a tiny bit rougher. Totally worth it to me. http://ift.tt/2jCrUmj
