Six months ago, this highly-detailed free model of Sylvanas was posted by /u/rayle1112 to /r/heroesofthestorm. The model is something like 200,000 polygons.I saw it and thought “challenge accepted.”This album is the result.StatueRoughly 46″/117cm at the tips of the ears.LED eyes with a wall plug hidden in her back I bought from an online seller called ModelTrainSoftware (I am not being paid nor was I asked to endorse them–but I do source my LEDs solely from there because I know what I’m getting and it means all the voltages are compatible).Hair chopped off a wig from a party store.Combination of hand-paint and blocking with tape.Used cheap acrylic paints (think the 2USD type). The green bits are glow paint.Probably weighs around 20LBS/9kg (total guess, not put on a scale).Cape is cloth from a craft store.Parts are friction-welded (stick 3D filament in a rotary, spin it at maximum and touch to the parts that need to hold together). No plans to add her bow or quiver since in-game the quiver sort of hovers (aka real physics need not apply) and the cape puts enough weight on the neck assembly as-is.Shoulders hit with a lot of builder primer to smooth them before acrylic paint was added.Head is removable and can be disconnected from the power supply. I initially intended the face to be swappable as well but that collided with the reality of the hair being glued in.Can only remain upright on totally flat surfaces, hence the stand since the room I’m keeping her in is carpeted. (Insert “top-heavy” joke–but in all seriousness those shoulders are massively top-heavy.)The original model was wearing a thong. I didn’t want that in my office so mine has pants instead (like the Heroes of the Storm version).StandA buttload of Bondo to level it.High-build automotive-grade primer also helped fill in gaps. The “two towers” were supposed to keep her from falling forward but by weight she actually tips backward but not enough to cause problems. The underarm holders are coat hangers, cut, stripped, and repainted black. Again, this was meant to prevent faceplants but isn’t actually necessary. The cape hides most of the support structure.Lacquered over the paint layer to protect.Both3D printed using a FlashForge Creator Pro clone, mostly at 0.1mm (0.2mm for shoulder pauldrons).Material: PLA.Sanded with a combination of 120, 220, 400, 800, 1000, 1500, and 2000 grit sandpaper. (Not all parts were sanded with each grit, and no part was sanded with all grits.)Total cost estimate, $175-$200 and many hours of sanding/painting/friction-welding. This includes the PLA plastic, acrylic paints, primer paints, stand topcoat, stand lacquer, cape, LEDs, wall plug, weights in the feet, and wig.Not for sale. Let me repeat that: NOT FOR SALE, and no commissions on this model to make additional copies will be taken.I never received a response from the author of the original model whether or not I could release my “reprocessed” version that is capable of being 3D printed, so I’m holding onto the files. http://ift.tt/2kGsdPZ
