Monoprice Maker Select Plus Z-Brace Mod

Information for the ZBrace mod seemed to be scattered everywhere so this is my attempt to combine it all for anyone interested in doing the mod.Strongly recommend using a different set of allen wrenches for working on your machine. The ones that come with the printer seem to be very soft metal and round off easily. Night and day difference when using a quality set.Print:6 – BallsMk2.stl – http://ift.tt/2sKZMRq – TopLeft_fixed.stl – http://ift.tt/2sKZMRq – TopRight_fixed.stl – http://ift.tt/2sKZMRq – i3_Plus_Z_left_level.stl – http://ift.tt/2s0FxC9 – i3_Plus_Z_right_level.stl – http://ift.tt/2s0FxC9 – Plus_back_left-plug.stl – http://ift.tt/2s0FxC9 – Plus_back_right-plug.stl – http://ift.tt/2sKVI3o – 5MM x12MM Cap Screw – 2 bags of 2pieces @ $0.62 each – SKU 574176 – http://ift.tt/2s0FSoc – M3-0.5 x 10MM or 16MM Socket Cap Screws – 3 bags of 3 pieces @ $0.45 each- SKU 212230 or 212591 – http://ift.tt/2sZfwlM – http://ift.tt/2sL4q1V – 5/16in – 18 Grade 8 Coarse Hex Nuts – 3 bags of 2 pieces @ $0.65 each – SKU 600064 – http://ift.tt/2s0D6Q8 – 5/16in – 18 x 36in Zinc-Plated Threaded Rod – 1 rod @ $2.63 each – SKU 671215 – http://ift.tt/2sKZKZO – 1-1/2 in. Threaded Stem Furniture Glides with Felt Base – 1 pack @ $3.97each – SKU 142610 – http://ift.tt/2s0sUqL Cost: $11.14Install:Use hacksaw to cut Threaded Rod in half, for two 18in rods.Break off support inside each BallsMk2 print.Install TopLeft_fixed and TopRight_fixed.Unscrew 1 screw from top left of printer.Thread 1 M3-0.5x10mm cap screw into TopLeft_fixed part and screw it into the hole you just removed make sure the part is swiveled out of the way of the other screws. This is to keep the back plate in place during the install. Now unscrew the other 3 screws and spin around the TopLeft_fixed part to match up the holes and secure the part to the frame using 3 more M3-0.5x10mm cap screws.Repeat this process for the top right frame of the printer using TopRight_fixed part and 4 more M3-0.5X10mm cap screws.Install Furniture Glides.Insert the furniture guide stem into the foot hole of i3_Plus_Z_left/right_level and Plus_back_left/right-plug and secure with plastic nut.Install i3_Plus_Z_left/right_level.I find it easier to pull the machine just a little off of the edge of a table that way you can work on the feet without having to lift the machine.Remove the single 5MM cap screw.Slide the foot into place, from the side to make sure the lip that holds the foot of the machine is properly positioned to fill the gap of the printed part.Use a new 5MMx12MM cap screw to secure the foot into place.Repeat for other side.Install Plus_back_left-plug.Same with the back, I pulled the machine just a bit off the table to give me room to work on the feet.Remove the single 5MM cap screw.Slide the foot into place, from the side to make sure the lip that holds the foot of the machine is properly positioned to fill the gap of the printed part.Use a new 5MMx12MM cap screw to secure the foot into place.Repeat for other side.Install Threaded Rod.Slide rod in from TopLeft_fixed down through i3_Plus_Z_left.With rod sticking out under i3_Plus_Z_left screw on one hex nut from the bottom.Pull down the rod so that is no longer in TopLeft_fixed. From the top of the rod screw on one hex nut, spinning it down until it stops at i3_Plus_Z_left.Slide on one BallsMk2 from the top, have it cover the hex nut touching the i3_Plus_Z_left.Screw on another hex nut about half way then slide on another BallsMk2Push the rod up through the top of TopLeft_fixed and slide in one BallsMk2 and one hex nut.Rod order of parts (Top to bottom):Hex nutBallsMk2TopLeft_fixedBallsMk2Hex nutBallsMk2Hex screwi3_Plus_Z_leftHex nutComplete again for right side.Upvote http://ift.tt/2t49fq5

How much lifespan do you think is left on the Prusa i3 design?

So it seems like the prusa mk2s is the premium consumer grade 3d printer at the moment. A great compromise between cost and quality. How long do you think this will last? It seems like resin printers are getting better and cheaper and produce higher quality prints. Will the i3 be usurped any time soon? http://ift.tt/2t2SYBn
