Quick PSA: Boots Industries spools are 750g, NOT 1kg rolls.

I want to make sure anyone ordering or considering ordering from Boots Industries is fully aware that they don’t make it clear at all that their filaments are sold on 750g spools and they don’t display this prominently anywhere on the product page. This could lead to people mistakenly believing they’re ordering standard 1kg rolls for $20, when in fact they’re ordering 750g.Now, I’m not going to defend this seemingly deceptive oversight with how they’re displaying their product, but I will still defend their product quality because their filaments are fantastic, and I will also still defend their price with the caveat that this is only so because of how the market is pricing low quality, imported Chinese filament. Right now Hatchbox is $22/kg, i.e. $0.022c/g while Boots Industries is $20/750g, which is only $0.026c/g! That 4/10ths of a cent is absolutely worth it over Hatchbox, et. al. That said, I encourage anyone considering doing business with Boots Industries or about to make an order from them to use the contact form on their homepage to encourage them to be upfront and honest with setting customer expectations about how much filament they’re ordering per roll, since another redditor who ordered from them on my recommendation has already been confused by their lack of clearly displayed and accurate information about their standard spool weight.I hope this post doesn’t seem over the top, but I’ve been recommending them a lot and I don’t want to feel responsible for anyone feeling burned on an order because they didn’t realize they were order 750g spools and not 1kg spools. As I said, it’s still absolutely worth it at their price of $0.026/g but this should still be completely clear to everyone upfront. Finally, I also encourage anyone doing business with or wanting to order from Boots to encourage them to also consider coming down in price another 15% per spool to bring their price directly in line with Hatchbox. Now, obviously Hatchbox isn’t really setting the bar very high with price vs. performance, and you can order the exact same filament on made-in-china.com for $6/kg, but they seem to be the baseline price that domestic manufacturers are using to charge a their “premium” over. So I encourage everyone to communicate with their domestic filament manufacturer of choice about coming down in price, optimally to around $20/kg, which a fair price for domestic PLA, and is still very profitable.I just can’t stress enough how much of a ripoff Chinese filament on Amazon is…Anyhow, I hope this was helpful to you all and apologies to any one else who ordered from Boots on my recommendation not realizing they were ordering 750g spools. You might want to contact them about that, and perhaps ask for a discount on your next order if that’s the case.Namaste. http://ift.tt/2kxBwAp
