Hey Guys and Gals,A few of us over at the slack group have decided to do a prototype run of a few (10 to be precise) prusa MK42 heatbeds from a PCB fab house. The reason why we are calling this a “prototype” run is that we have compiled gerbers files (the files that you send over to the fabrication house for them manufacture the PCBs) from the eagle board file available freely on prusa rearch’s Git Hub, but these are essentially untested (only by PR themselves). And because printing such a small run of boards at 3mm thickness is fairly pricey, we are trying to share the cost between member of the community! The idea currently is that if we can raise 250$/€, we will have the fab house manufacture 10 MK42 bed, at 2mm thickness, 2oz trace. Each person contributing 25$/€ or more will get a board shipped out to them (if your contribution ends up not covering shipping costs to your house, we may ask you to chip in at a later date), whether it actually works or not.If we can get up to 500$/€ in the fund, we will get the board manufactured at 3mm thickness, which is the correct thickness for MK42 boards, which means that if everything works out, you will get a fully usable bed out of it. This does not change the amount you need to contribute to receive a bed.The main goal here is to be able to release our gerbers files back to the community once they have been confirmed working, so that everyone can get them manufacture with the peace of mind that they will work. This will hopefully help with availability of the heatbeds, as we will be able to place a batch order and sell them back at a reasonable price. The goal is not to go head to head with PR 🙂 they simply do not seem very willing to sell their heatbeds freely at a reasonable price currently. If you don’t necessarily need a heatbed, but still want to contribute to the community effort, any donation is appreciated :)Lastly, if we do not get to the $250 mark, no one will actually be charged any money, obviously !The link to the crowdfund is as follows:http://ift.tt/2jHCXJr http://ift.tt/2iMaiEu
