Video of Lulzbot Mini auto-levelIf you’ve never seen it, there’s a video above. How it works: First, the head wipes off extra plastic on a cotton strip. Then, the head lowers to a washer in each corner that is securing the printing surface. When the head touches the washer, the print head dedects the conduction and notes the height. It repeats for four corners. The advantages versus induction, I think, would be that there is no XY offset between the measured point and the print head. And the Z offset is just the washer thickness, which would be easy to control. Also, no inductive sensor is needed nor the weight of it or the mount. And detecting conduction should be easy, right? Why don’t more printers work this way? http://ift.tt/2af61oX
