noob printing issues

Howdy all, Just picked up one of those super cheap Monoprice mini printers, got the bed all leveled and done a few test prints so far. The system comes with a few basic test files that you can print, a cat and a baby elephant. The cat prints no problem, but there is another one of a “baby elephant” that is really giving me some grief when the printer tries to print it. This is the file : http://ift.tt/29m1PFF – it gets about 30% of the way through it and then explodes. I watched it just prior to it exploding, and what is happening is that the printer is getting really close to joining the 4 legs into the bottom of the body, and the head is crashing into the inner tips of the legs (it kind of looks like a triangle) and causing the legs to dislodge from the bed. It appears the filament is “warping/curling” upward on the Z axis a bit, then solidifying. Every layer makes this worse until the head just knocks the leg over. Is this a filament temperature issue or.. ? I’m just using some regular white PLA at 220C or so. The file specifies 195C, so I tried that as well, same thing. http://ift.tt/29fzDRD

Please post your settings when asking for help

The majority of this help-me posts only have picture of the final print. That only gives others just a clue about what might have gone wrong. In order to really diagnose the problem, we need to know almost everything about what you are doing. This list of information should be required:Printer you are using:Material you are using:Extruder temperature:Bed temperature:Layer settings:Retraction settings:Infill percentage:Print speed (both while printing and not printing): http://ift.tt/29pEz6V

Raise3d claims 10 micron resolution…. thoughts?

Hey everyone! So I was looking at the Raise3D printers, and they claim to do 10 micron resolution, which would make them better resolution than SLA printers like the formlab form1+…. Conceptually, this just doesn’t make sense to me since, from what I learned, SLA was the only technology that could get those kinds of resolutions…Anyone have experience with this printer and can confirm/deny Raise3D’s claims? http://ift.tt/29eyJ8a
