Modelling for 3d printing pro-tip – Working in the right scale.

I’ve been making objects that have pretty low tolerances. If you’re looking to match a part and are taking a reference photograph and you don’t have a sharp ruler on hand, photograph the part you are matching with a usb connection. They are universally exactly 12mm. In your modelling software create a 12mm cube, scale the reference image so the USB you photographed is the exact same width as the USB. Everything you build in scene will now be to correct scale with a pretty damn good tolerance. Good enough that I was able to model and print a working 2×4 Lego brick that fits pretty damn good, and a working nozzle for an asthma inhaler. http://ift.tt/2a4gUGK

3d printed leatherworking ideas?

Waiting on my first printer to arrive (prusa on backorder). Wondering what others have printed to aid them in leatherworking projects. Stamps and molds for wet forming are the only things I have thought of so far. Maybe even making a stitching pony? Would love to see pics of projects if anyone has any. http://ift.tt/2a5eXgs

Where in the US do I find metric screws??

Where in the US do I find metric screws like M3 M2 etc? Im looking for a local source, or maybe a kit of screws I can buy online that would support Duplicator i3 mods/repairs. I can find some on Amazon and Ebay, but I’m not sure what to get (new to this 3d Printer stuff) Thanks http://ift.tt/29SE5sg
