Cubex Uno/duo/trio conversion to open source, Need some advice/tips

I’m pretty much tired of my cubex’s proprietary software, it’s hands down the worst i’ve ever used/witness. I was wondering if anyone on this sub had actually done the conversion first hand. Currently looking for a nice board to convert to open source. I was considering the gt2560, which is a clone of the ardunio + ramps 1.4 but i haven’t found much info on it other than geeetech’s technical page. Any and all info is welcome. http://ift.tt/1UueZzs

Overhang support issue & skipping layers? :(

Hey everyone.I’m using a Printrbot Play with Cura. I’m running into two main problems right now.First of all, I noticed that using supports are nearly useless for any model I choose because the supports don’t actually touch the object itself. As a result, I’m getting absolutely terrible prints when there is an overhang.I thought that supports are supposed to be extremely close or actually touching the object so that the extruded filament can be placed on top of the support to continue building the object at very steep angles.Secondly, I am running into the issue where the object has multiple gaps and skipped layers. The object looks fine in Cura, but ends up having several gaps when printing. I cleaned the nozzle, printed slower and faster, enclosed the printer in a box, messed with cooling, but nothing seems to get rid of them.I believe the issue is with the filament itself because I am nearing the end of the spool and I read somewhere that it has a lot of friction involved with filament at the end of the spool. I believe this did not happen when the spool was full, but I am not 100% sure.Pictures: http://ift.tt/261EU5r http://ift.tt/1sFRxog
