TPU on monoprice maker select

So i got some ninjaflex and i cant seem to get it to work. I don’t think this printhead is able to print it. It prints for like 30 seconds then just clogs, no matter what i try. The feed cog things push it into the space between them and the nozzle and it just bunches up there. Is there any fix without changing the nozzle/extruder section? If not, is there any tutorials/guides for someone to change it?I need to be able to print in a very flexible material for some projects. I may try PCTPE, but i’ve never felt how flexy it is, it may not be flexible enough. http://ift.tt/28ShQPA

Question about GCode

I noticed that I have the ability to tweak the gcode in Simplify3D. If the home command on my printer (Monoprice Mini) sends the extruder to (0,0) for x and y, can I expect the same for the home command in gcode? The reason I ask is once a print is finished, the extruder stays above the part. I would like for it to move out of the way so it’s easier to remove the part. http://ift.tt/28NLCZs

APRIL MAKERBOX FILAMENT REVIEW – CORKFILL FILAMENT

The first Makerbox was sent out in April, I received 4 coils of filaments:http://ift.tt/1roQeJg included:Advanced PLA – Blue Reviewed HEREBuzzed – Brown – Reviewed HERECorkfill – Brown – This Review, silly!nGen – Silver MetallicIt’s Corkfill Time!(See my first review on a bit more detailed information on my process)This was my most anticipated filament in the first box. I’ve wanted to try a “woodfill” type of filament, but too cheap to spend the $$ on a whole roll. It’s made up of cork particles and PLA blend so if you were hoping for it to be a little… spongy like I was, you will be let down (like I was).Weight in came in spot on at 50g. Since it’s cork it would be lighter, right!? So did I get jipped? Nope, distance looked the same on this as the others on the spool.http://ift.tt/28Ni1jo was recommended to print at 4-10% higher flow rate, which I did. Print temp recommendations are 210-230. So I started a temp tower from 250 down to 200. At 215, filament started under extruding so I stopped the print.http://ift.tt/28MmcZr was a clean line with no artifacts so I used that as my temp to print out a Marvin.http://ift.tt/28NhQ7K you can see, I over extruded by just a smidge, so I should have gone with a 5%-6% increased flow rate over 9%.http://ift.tt/28Mmdwh As I had hoped, it had a nice woody smell to it, though really that’s the only positive thing I felt out of this filament. It was a pain in the ass to get it to stick to any surface. Painters tape didn’t work, regular glass didn’t work. Glass with Hair spray – nope. Borosilicate glass with ABS was it. And I had to work for it. I hadn’t printed with a brim in a while, but this one required it. So when it came to print, it had to extrude 4 loops (Brim) around the temp tower before it started coming out. Then to get it to stick, I held the extruded filament down so it could get more surface area on the glass to finally stick. After that, though, I didn’t have any problems.I think some of the issues with sticking was to do with the filament being SOOOO runny. It just poured out of the hot end while resting. The cork fill effect wasn’t all that spectacular IMO. It’s a quite dark dull (non-shiney) brown that is semi-smooth. I was expecting it to be rougher because of how it felt prior to extrusion, but nope. To be fair, it’s not as smooth as a glossy PLA, though. For $65/1kg spool from Amazon.com, I’d pass unless you have a wood project and want to say it’s printed out of wood filament.Along with all of that, I found the filament to be very brittal. Trying to get it wrapped around a spool was frustrating because the start would break off its holder and the whole spool would relax so I’d have to start over. Happened twice.I’ll be printing out a Dancing Groot once by Beer Stein is finished (Repaired) and I’ll update the post with Pictures tomorrow.FeedbackI feel like I’m missing the point of the wood filaments, so if you have any better recommendations on what to test, let me know!I didn’t get any requests in my last review to review it any different way so I stuck with what I did before. If you have any recomended models, tests, etc to print out, let me know and I can give it all a shot.Need to figure out a way to not spend 2 hours staring at printer printing. – I cleaned the house this time! Hopefully my wife will be happy when she gets home! – Wife was happy with the cleaning. I have sadly done nothing this time around! http://ift.tt/28NhTjX

3D printers in Europe?

I have been looking at this sub for a while now looking at your awesome stuff you guys post.I really want to get a 3D printer but I can’t seem to find a good place to get one of these printers in europe without costing an extra 100-150 euros(import and sending costs). The price range I have been looking for is around the 400-550 max euro’s and I want to print awesome stuff like a phone holder a drone body some models ect. I found a printer I really liked(like really hyped to get) (Folger Tech FT-5 Large Scale 3D Printer Kit) webshop because of the big printing space but if i want to send it to my country (The Netherlands) it would probably cost a extra 100-150 euros.Do you guys have any advice for this problem.(Some one said that most printers are open source so i could lasercut all the part order the rest of the parts and build it myself). I don’t mind fully building a 3D printer (never done it tho).Thank you very much!!! http://ift.tt/28NhIoZ

April MakerBox Filament Review – Buzzed Filament

First, I want to warn you about this filament. It… Smells… Amazing… It made me crave sugar, and this is the warning. I had to limit myself to only 10 double stuff oreos, and I don’t typically eat sweets!Anyway, the Filament. The first Makerbox was sent out in April, I received 4 coils of filaments:http://ift.tt/1roQeJg included:Advanced PLA – Blue Reviewed HEREBuzzed – Brown – This review, sillyCorkfill – Brown – Printing while I do this review!!!nGen – Silver MetallicNow, on to the Sweet, sweet Buzzed(See my last review on a bit more detailed information on my process)Marketing says that this filament was made using waste byproducts from the beer making process. Think of it like chicken byproduct (The beak, guts, etc of beer?).. It is a line of materials blah blah blah… If you want to know more, go google it. They aren’t paying me anything to test/sell their products (Wink wink)First up is the weigh in at a whopping 55g.http://ift.tt/28K34ha temperature wise the recommendation was 180 – 210, so I printed out a 230 – 180 tower.http://ift.tt/28NWpjJ temp. came out pretty solid and similar, so I selected 210 to print my marvin at a layer height of .2800:http://ift.tt/28K33tv came out pretty good, a little issue with overhang, but that might have been due to the slow print speed (22.3mm/s) and thicker layer height.http://ift.tt/28NWofJ off, the smell… I don’t enjoy beer, I’m more of a whisky guy, but while printing this stuff out all I wanted to stick my face into the enclosure and close the door to enjoy every whiff of this stuff. It’s a sweet, oak smell, with the ever so slight hint of beer. If you wind up buying any, you’ve been warned, you may crave sugar! I swear I’m not crazy. I rolled 6 different filaments onto printed out spools, this was the ONLY ONE that my cats wouldn’t leave alone while I was trying to roll the spool.http://ift.tt/28K36Fs the print didn’t smell the same after it was finished :(It stuck perfectly well to ABS juice on Borosilicate glass. I printed out the Marvin on a section without the ABS juice and it stuck just fine as well. It’s a clean filament, has nice dark flakes that fall into it. The temperature tower is a single layer and it looks to be near translucent. I really like the randomness of the spots and think it’s a great looking filament.I used the same PLA settings as the Advanced PLA and my Hatchbox PLA (Minus temp differences) and I’d say it’s very comparable.FeedbackI didn’t get any requests in my last review to review it any different way so I stuck with what I did before. If you have any recomended models, tests, etc to print out, let me know and I can give it all a shot.I printed out 6 copies of a spool and hand wrapped them. They are sturdy and will work out well for the time being. http://ift.tt/28NWpQT to figure out a way to not spend 2 hours staring at printer printing. – I cleaned the house this time! Hopefully my wife will be happy when she gets home!Added Starting to print out this Beer Stein per the manufacturers recommendations. Granted I only have 45g of filament let, I have to print it out scaled to 50%. Hope it doesn’t fail! Print is 5hrs and starting here in ~30 minutes (6pm PST). I’ll add pictures tomorrow of either buzzed spaghetti or a beer stein!Update #2 Beer Stein update. 50% is small 🙁 http://ift.tt/28M1nzF #3 Beer Stein and some spaghetti this morning 🙁 http://ift.tt/28LC78r It came unattached from the glass. I’ll try to finish it a-la-power outage guy, but I’m not as smart as him. http://ift.tt/28M1v2a
