The first Makerbox was sent out in April, I received 4 coils of filaments:http://ift.tt/1roQeJg included:Advanced PLA – Blue Reviewed HEREBuzzed – Brown – Reviewed HERECorkfill – Brown – This Review, silly!nGen – Silver MetallicIt’s Corkfill Time!(See my first review on a bit more detailed information on my process)This was my most anticipated filament in the first box. I’ve wanted to try a “woodfill” type of filament, but too cheap to spend the $$ on a whole roll. It’s made up of cork particles and PLA blend so if you were hoping for it to be a little… spongy like I was, you will be let down (like I was).Weight in came in spot on at 50g. Since it’s cork it would be lighter, right!? So did I get jipped? Nope, distance looked the same on this as the others on the spool.http://ift.tt/28Ni1jo was recommended to print at 4-10% higher flow rate, which I did. Print temp recommendations are 210-230. So I started a temp tower from 250 down to 200. At 215, filament started under extruding so I stopped the print.http://ift.tt/28MmcZr was a clean line with no artifacts so I used that as my temp to print out a Marvin.http://ift.tt/28NhQ7K you can see, I over extruded by just a smidge, so I should have gone with a 5%-6% increased flow rate over 9%.http://ift.tt/28Mmdwh As I had hoped, it had a nice woody smell to it, though really that’s the only positive thing I felt out of this filament. It was a pain in the ass to get it to stick to any surface. Painters tape didn’t work, regular glass didn’t work. Glass with Hair spray – nope. Borosilicate glass with ABS was it. And I had to work for it. I hadn’t printed with a brim in a while, but this one required it. So when it came to print, it had to extrude 4 loops (Brim) around the temp tower before it started coming out. Then to get it to stick, I held the extruded filament down so it could get more surface area on the glass to finally stick. After that, though, I didn’t have any problems.I think some of the issues with sticking was to do with the filament being SOOOO runny. It just poured out of the hot end while resting. The cork fill effect wasn’t all that spectacular IMO. It’s a quite dark dull (non-shiney) brown that is semi-smooth. I was expecting it to be rougher because of how it felt prior to extrusion, but nope. To be fair, it’s not as smooth as a glossy PLA, though. For $65/1kg spool from Amazon.com, I’d pass unless you have a wood project and want to say it’s printed out of wood filament.Along with all of that, I found the filament to be very brittal. Trying to get it wrapped around a spool was frustrating because the start would break off its holder and the whole spool would relax so I’d have to start over. Happened twice.I’ll be printing out a Dancing Groot once by Beer Stein is finished (Repaired) and I’ll update the post with Pictures tomorrow.FeedbackI feel like I’m missing the point of the wood filaments, so if you have any better recommendations on what to test, let me know!I didn’t get any requests in my last review to review it any different way so I stuck with what I did before. If you have any recomended models, tests, etc to print out, let me know and I can give it all a shot.Need to figure out a way to not spend 2 hours staring at printer printing. – I cleaned the house this time! Hopefully my wife will be happy when she gets home! – Wife was happy with the cleaning. I have sadly done nothing this time around! http://ift.tt/28NhTjX
