I started my small business with 3D Printing and I wanted to share.

Greetings 3D Print Heads! In December of 2016 I was inspired to create detailed sculptures in ZBrush and 3D print them out in the form of a keycap on my Form 2 3D printer. I have been digitally sculpting for the entertainment industry for more than 10 years, but I always wanted to apply my artistic skill-set to something physical, artistic and functional if possible. This idea worked out lovely as the resolution of SLA is perfect for this application. My shop Clackeys have done surprisingly well, with over 500 individual designs sold, I have been designing, printing, hand painting and selling mx keycaps in my spare time all using a single printer. With that, I wanted to share some of my 3D Printing production photos with you and also answer any questions that you might have for me about what it is like to run a “micro factory” (I think that is the correct term).HERE is the IMGUR link to my products and behind the scenes pictures of stuff being painted, on the trays ect. Some photos may be slightly NSFW and Yes, that is a boob for your keyboard, which was what started this whole adventure in the first place. This year I am looking to grow my small business and I have big hopes to go full time with more unique designs and a bigger production capability. Etsy is currently running a small business contest this month and I would love the support of r/3dprinting. If you want to support me and my cause (3D Printing artistic+functional designs) stop by HERE and toss me a vote. One of the questions I get asked the most is, why don’t I just cast my designs and sell those. My answer is that usually my designs have aspects to them that cannot be cast (for the most part) and I find that designing for casting limits what you can do design wise. For example, the One Eyed Willie has a tiny hole that goes from one side of the key to the other, or the HydralESC has so many little undercuts, you would need to have a several piece mold for one keycap. Some of my future designs are going to push this idea even further. http://ift.tt/2oEmzuP

FINALLY perfected this print. OMG. Thank you /r/3DPrinting!

Before: http://ift.tt/2nASjBN http://ift.tt/2oE27KO: http://ift.tt/2nAFvLH http://ift.tt/2nQvwnB would love to thank this community for helping me fix this friggen print. I’ve printed it at least 7 times and it broke EVERY time in some stupid way. The fix was that the print was not bonding the infill and outline leaving horrible gaps. The fix was to increase the outline overlap to 25% in Simplify3D as well as increase the solid top layers from 3 to 4. Thank you again! 😀 http://ift.tt/2nABDKU
